I used the free campground and onsen behind the onsen facility on a Friday evening.
I'm tattooed all over, but maybe it was just that there happened to be nobody to snitch?
I was able to have a relaxing bath like normal with my son, who's in 3rd grade.
I told him, "If Daddy gets kicked out, just stay and enjoy the bath on your own."
The facility is well cleaned and very clean.
And the ladies on staff are all really nice.
There are signs in several places saying irezumi and gang members are refused.
By the way, smokers are OK for now.
Unusually, dinner was in a place kind of like an izakaya, and smoking was OK there too. I brought my own drinks and nobody said anything.

As an overnight guest, I forced my way in early in the morning, but there's a "prohibited" sign in the changing room. Also, the bathing hours are the same for overnight and day-trip visitors, and there are way too many day-trippers, so it's really hard to get in. There's a sauna, and the salty water is really great, but it's like a super sento, so I couldn't relax. There's also a game corner and a rest area. The rooms don't have a toilet or bath, but they're compact so that's plenty, but I don't recommend it for people with tattoos.
Bathing from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
There's only a Seicomart across the street. The meals were Japanese food and really delicious! The Seicomart is also open until 11 p.m. There are separate bedrock baths for men and women. 90 minutes free for guests on the two-meal plan, but... it was way too hot.
