I went in while covering up, and about 10 minutes later a staff member came over and said another customer had complained about my tattoo, so I had to leave right away. That day I was staying at Yorimichi no Yado next door, and the next morning at the hotel front desk they asked me, "We heard that a guest of our hotel with tattoos bathed yesterday. Was that you?" I said no, but the place had been so packed with day-trip bathers, so I wondered why they singled me out, a guest from the hotel next door. Their persistence was a bit scary, and of course it totally ruined my mood.
Their terms of use prohibit people with irezumi or tattoos (including stickers) from using the bedrock bath, the baths, the changing rooms and the sauna.
I was being careful to keep them covered and nobody said anything, but on my way out I didn't cover them for just a second, and a staff member appeared out of nowhere and said, "Please get changed and pay right away and leave. You can't use the powder room either." I thought it was a nice place and happily spent a lot of money there, too. It ruined my whole day...
