There was a post from someone who seemed to be connected to the facility, but I checked by phone in advance and at the front desk on the day, and was able to bathe. As of July 2025, it's temporarily closed. Legionella bacteria were found again. Just letting you know, to be safe. Public day-use onsen in Shizuoka Prefecture vary in how they handle it, but many of them let you bathe.
First of all, tattoos are OK as a rule. More importantly, the pump at this onsen broke and they'd been running with plain heated water for about a year, but apparently the onsen water is coming back from April.
Hello. I'm the manager of Yamasemi no Yu. At our onsen, we value fair and equal treatment of guests who carry a variety of cultural values on their bodies, and our motto is to run the facility without discrimination. In accordance with Article 244 of the Local Autonomy Act, regardless of size, location or design, we do not discriminate by refusing entry to guests with tattoos (including fashion tattoos) or body piercings, or by asking them to hide those areas with stickers or towels. I, the manager, also speak Korean, so please feel at ease and come visit. You can also enjoy a delicious lunch. Every Sunday from 2 p.m. we hold a rock-paper-scissors tournament and a treasure hunt game for kids. To Koreans living in Shizuoka and those traveling to Shizuoka, why not come and visit Yamasemi no Yu? You're welcome here.
You can get in. Everyone at the facility was really kind, and I had a lovely bath.
You can get in.
You can get in normally. In fact, they state clearly that discriminatory remarks are not allowed. The photos of this facility are pretty old. They don't have Showa-style notices like that anymore.
A yakuza favorite.
There's a 2018 post saying tattoos aren't allowed, but since April 2018, when the designated manager changed to the current Yours Shizuoka Co., Ltd., they have not been refusing tattoos. If you ask by phone, depending on the staff member, you may be told to "cover them with a towel," but you can ignore that. It's just staff carried over from the old operating company saying it on their own. (That said, they don't mean any harm. They're country folks, so they just can't adapt to new values.) In the changing room, there's a posted notice of their "Basic Stance on Tattoos," which says the following: People with tattoos who use common sense -> may bathe People who use tattoos as a means of expressing violence -> refused entry People who engage in violent behavior or hate speech, with or without tattoos -> refused entry By the way, since I'm the one writing this, this information is definitely accurate. That's because I'm the deputy manager of this facility.
The manager is a really nice guy!
Totally OK!
