After I entered and got in the bath,
a woman in her 60s doing the rounds warned me about my small tattoo.
Getting warned can't be helped, but later, while I was getting dressed,
she told me, "From now on, we'll ask you to leave,"
and I couldn't quite accept that.
It's a fashion tattoo, not yakuza-culture irezumi, and it feels discriminatory. I've been to spas in Tokyo and other cities many times, but this is the first time I've been treated with the words "you'll have to leave."
It's old-fashioned, or rather, even though fashion tattoo culture has taken root in Japan too, out here in rural Yamanashi their response still seemed to be based on old thinking.
Hmm…
If you go in by mistake and get spotted, you'll be made to leave immediately. I think it's also posted at the front desk just inside the entrance.
For details, check the terms of use on the official website.
Definitely don't go in. Staff patrol the baths pretty often too.
Hmm…
They turned me away from even entering the building. Not allowed even if you cover them.
