Got inForeigners with tattoos are OK but Japanese people aren't? Isn't that reverse discrimination?
I'd think that these days, organized crime people don't even get tattoos anymore...
The whole "tattoos = organized crime" way of thinking is lame.
Hmm…I could feel a yakuza covered in tattoos staring at me, and it made me feel bad.
Got inLooking at tattoos with prejudice forever feels outdated! It feels like only Japan is being left behind, and I want foreign tourists who come to Japan to enjoy it 100%!!
Got inNo problem here, they treat everyone the same. Times are changing. I really question a way of thinking that's going to get left behind forever.
Got inI got in like normal.
Organized crime.
Tattoos are gross.
Tattoos are lame.
Hmm…Tattoos = organized crime. Yakuza, get lost.
Got inWhy are tattoos bad or not allowed? Judging people by their looks is a bad trait of the Japanese.
Got inI'll go again.
I got in, but I was the only one, so I felt a bit out of place.
Got inYou can get in with no problem. When I called ahead to check, they gladly replied, "That's fine, we look forward to seeing you."
Got inApparently it's OK because it's a public bathhouse!
Got inThey don't care!
Got inAnyone without a tatoo who goes in would definitely be taken aback.
Got inIt had turned into a gallery mixing Japanese and Western styles.
Got inI went in the morning!
Got inIt was a full-on tattoo gallery. There were people with Western-style tattoos too.
Got inIt was fine. They happily said yes on the phone too, so that was reassuring.
Got inI got in with no problem.
Got inIt's a historic onsen facility, so you can bathe here, but... I don't know where they heard about it from, but more and more bathers with Western-style tattoos are showing up.
I asked by phone and it was OK. I'm covered in tattoos, but I got in like normal.
Got inDogo Onsen Honkan doesn't prohibit them. We got in with a foreign tourist who had dozens of tattoos.

The person at the front desk happily told me, "It's fine, come on in!!"
It's approved by Matsuyama City, so no problem. Some people probably don't want to see them, so I keep mine covered with a towel and only take it off when I'm soaking in the water.
I could feel looks from other customers, but there wasn't any notice like "no tattoos," so I went in like normal.
So nobody would feel uncomfortable, I checked by phone in advance and they gladly said yes. Japan's oldest onsen, and I really enjoyed it.
I got tattooed fully prepared to face prejudice, since that's a given in Japan, so I only go to places I can get into. But people go on about prejudice and discrimination after getting inked... Tattoos = putting up with it.
I'm tattooed myself so I can't really say, but you do feel out of place. When I see other people with traditional Japanese tattoos, even I feel scared. So I try not to be like that and cover up as much as I can when I go in.
No problem.
There was no problem.
I checked beforehand, and they said it's fine.
I have acquaintances who are definitely not yakuza and still have tattoos... Tattoos are part of fashion, after all. Well, my boyfriend has them too, so we'll be stopping by!
