It was a rustic onsen...
As of August 2018: The onsen is in danger of closing, so you can only bathe on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 11:00-19:00, 600 yen. If you go early, you can use the rest room upstairs. It's old, but the water's benefits are outstanding, so I think it's nice to spend half a day soaking quietly. But! Let's not get too relaxed and expose ourselves. Thanks, everyone!
I have heavy traditional Japanese and Western-style tattoos, but... I'm not in any organized crime group or anything, and as long as you greet the locals and keep up courtesy, manners, and take care of your trash, can speak and understand Japanese, (it's a nuisance to show too much skin or be loud in a big group) and make sure not to bother anyone, you can get in. If you have some of the tea, please leave something in the piggy bank nearby.
Full-body tattoos are banned. It was OK for a small tattoo if you could cover it completely with stickers or something.
