I got in. They told me weekdays are fine, but weekends get crowded, so they'd like people with tattoos to refrain then.
It literally says weekdays are OK, come on
I was turned away.
The sign clearly says they refuse entry. Let's follow the facility's rules, shall we? That's common sense as an adult.
The owner here is very tolerant, and their view seems to be that even if you have tattoos, it's fine as long as you mind your manners. That said, on weekends, Sundays, and holidays a lot of families use it, so be careful. I have tattoos all over my body, but I keep them covered in the hall and rest areas. I also think about bathing at times when there won't be kids around. The staff seem to pick up on that kind of consideration, and they're really friendly to me. People have the image that tattoos = scary, so I think it's precisely because we follow considerate manners on our side that this is the one place that accepts tattoos. Before, there was a group in their 40s with tattoos who had kids with them. In the dining area they were shirtless and the kids were running around, which made a really bad impression. The staff warned them several times, but because of the impression a few people make, the image of everyone with tattoos gets worse too. If you're going to use it, mind your manners. Kaze no Yu accepts tattoos as long as you follow the etiquette. It's a lovely place.
A gray zone... If someone reports you, you're out.
This is the only onsen around here that people with tattoos or irezumi can get into. However, during tourist season or on weekends when there are lots of families, they sometimes turn people away. But it's OK most of the time, so it's fine. There are plenty of people openly showing off full tattoos, but sometimes they'll ask you to cover up with a bath towel or something.
I got turned down.
