Are there tattoo-friendly onsen in Kanagawa?
Yes. Tattoo GO lists 190 onsen in Kanagawa. For each one, you can see how many visitors with tattoos got in ("Got in") or had trouble ("Hmm…"), and read their reports.
Which onsen in Kanagawa have the most "Got in" reports?
Places with many "Got in" reports include Tenzan Tojikyo Higana Toji Tenzan, Sagamiko Onsen Ururi, 箱根小涌園ユネッサン. Reports come from visitors, so rules may have changed since.
Can I get in if I cover my tattoo with a sticker or bandage?
It depends on the facility. Some visitors report getting in with a cover sticker or a towel over a small tattoo, while others were turned away. Check the reports on each page and the facility’s own rules before you go.
Why do some onsen in Japan not allow tattoos?
In Japan, tattoos have long been associated with organized crime, so many baths ban them regardless of who you are. More places now welcome visitors with tattoos, or allow them in private baths.
